The building was built as a Protestant temple. In 1888, the pastor from Wiskitki, priest Juliusz Bursche, began preparations for the construction of a small house of prayer in Żyrardów. However, in the same year he was transferred to the Warsaw parish, and his efforts were continued by a new pastor - Father Rudolf Gustaw Gundlach. Funds for the construction of the new temple were donated by the then director of the Żyrardów plant, Karol Dittrich, as well as by factory workers. The collected funds as well as the help and involvement of parishioners allowed for the completion in 1898 of the construction of the temple, which was designed and built in the neo-Gothic style. The church was solemnly consecrated on September 25 of the same year by the Superintendent General, Father Karol Gustaw Manitius. At the time of consecration, the temple was named after the Ascension of the Lord. After World War II, on August 3, 1969, the temple was handed over by the Evangelical-Augsburg parish to the State Treasury for the purpose of archiving. In March 1976, the church was bought by the Roman Catholic parish. On March 27 of the same year, the building was consecrated as a Catholic church by Primate Stefan Wyszyński.
