Gregor Erhart (born in 1470 in Ulm, died in 1540 in Augsburg) - German woodcarver, late Gothic sculptor, one of the representatives of the so-called ulmska school. He was the son of Michel Erhart, brother of Bernhart Erhart, and father of Paul Erhart. Michel, his father, ran a workshop in Ulm, where Gregor took his first steps in sculpting. It is uncertain what came out of his chisel in the city centered around the cathedral, which was then a reference point for artists from the city in Swabia. In 1494 he moved to Augsburg, which at that time had the status of the Free City of the Reich. There, he set up a thriving workshop, in which he grew up, among others Adolf Daucher, known as "Kistler" (ie a woodcarver artist). In Augsburg, Gregor Erhart worked for the clergy of the monastery and church of St. Maurice. In 1496 he became the master of the sculptors' guild, recorded in a later chronicle as Ingeniosus magister.
