Early years He was born the eldest son and one of five children of draftsman Jessie Wayne Swayze (1925–1982) [5] and choreographer Yvonne Helen Karnes Swayze (1927–2013) [6] [7] [8] [9 ]. He had two younger brothers: Donald Carl (born August 10, 1958) [10] and Sean Kyle (born October 13, 1962), and two sisters: Bambi [11] and Vicky Lynn (1949–1994) [12]. He attended Black Middle School in Oak Forest, Illinois. [13] He continued his education in Houston, Texas at the Catholic School of Saint Rose of Lima, Waltrip High School and San Jacinto College. He appeared as an ice skater at the Galleria Ice Skating Pavilion in Houston. His father saw him as a professional athlete, but his promising football career was hindered by a knee injury, he was threatened with amputation. After a series of complicated surgeries, he had to learn to walk again, which was helped by the dance classes he attended at the Houston Jazz Ballet Company, Harkness Ballet Theater School, Joffrey Ballet School in New York and the Eliot Feld Ballet Company [14].
