Rajput Fort in the Indian city of Chittaurgarh in Rajasthan, built in the 8th century. Conquered in 1303 by the Sultan of Delhi, Alauddin Childji, who wanted to conquer the famous princess Padmini. Padmini and the court ladies committed johar, a ritualistic suicide. Although the fortress was later recovered by the Rajputs, it was conquered by the Gujarat Sultan Bahadur Shah in 1535. Again, the johar was committed by 13,000 women.
