Bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus L.) - a species of perennial plant from the heather family (Ericaceae). It has many common names, incl. blueberry, blueberry, blueberry. The plant is widely distributed in Asia, Europe and North America in temperate and arctic regions. In Poland, it is common both in the lowlands and in the mountains. It is used extensively as an edible and medicinal plant. The economic importance of blueberries remains high despite strong competition from much more fertile North American blueberries (mainly highbush blueberries), whose fruit has a poorer chemical composition than blueberry.
