Isolated populations in the north of the Carpathians, in Stara Planina, Germany, Czech Republic, Hungary and in the south of the Alps are considered a relic of the glacial period. The southern boundary of the range runs through the forests of Masuria. In Poland, it occurs sparse in the mountains of the south-eastern part of the country, in the Carpathians and foothills, in Roztocze, the Zamość region and the Kielce region. Little is known about the disappearing population of Masuria.
