Somaliland (Republic of Somaliland, Somal. Soomaaliland, Arabic. Ard as-Sūmāl, Eng. Somaliland) - an Islamic republic, unrecognized by the international community, located in East Africa on the Gulf of Aden. Somaliland declared secession from Somalia in 1991 and has since managed to build a functioning state body with a democratically elected president and parliament. It borders with Djibouti, Ethiopia and Puntland - another part of Somalia.
