India (socially unacceptable proposal of the PAN from 1959: India [6], Hindi: भारत, trl. Bhārat, trb. Bharat, pronunciation i; English India, pronunciation i / ˈɪndiə /), Republic of India (Hindi: भारत गणराज्य, trl. Bhārat Gaṇarājya, trb. Bharat Ganarajya; Republic of India) - a country located in South Asia, occupying most of the Indian subcontinent [7]. It is the 7th country in the world in terms of area and the second largest population; it is also the most populous democracy in the world. India is bordered by the Indian Ocean to the south, the Arabian Sea to the southwest and the Bay of Bengal to the southeast. From the north, India is bounded by the Himalayas and the Karakoram. They border Pakistan in the north-west, with China, Nepal and Bhutan in the north, Myanmar and Bangladesh in the north-east, and with Sri Lanka and the Maldives in the south-east, through Mannar Bay and the Palk Strait. The Indian Andaman and Nicobar Islands share a sea border with Thailand and Indonesia.
