Gibraltar (distorted Arabic: جبل طارق - Jabal Tarik, "Mount Tarika") [3] - British overseas territory on the southern coast of the Iberian Peninsula, southern Europe. It covers an area of 6.55 km² [4] and is inhabited by 34,003 inhabitants [1]. It is situated on the Gulf of Gibraltar, near the exit of the Mediterranean Sea to the Atlantic Ocean (Strait of Gibraltar). To the north, it is bordered by the Spanish city of La Línea de la Concepción and the Comarka Campo de Gibraltar (Spanish). The Rock of Gibraltar is a landmark towering over the territory. In the past, an important base of the Royal Navy, now the territory's economy is based mainly on tourism, trade, financial services, the shipping sector and the bookmaker tax [5].
