In August 1888 Vincent van Gogh began painting a series of paintings, defined by the researcher of his work, Jan Hulsker, as works that "perhaps more than any of his other paintings, made him famous all over the world. They are often the only works with which he is identified ". This series of images is Sunflowers.

The series includes six paintings (seventh, Still Life : a vase with five sunflowers was destroyed during World War II):

Still life : a vase with fifteen sunflowers (Vijftien zonnebloemen in een vaas, Still Life : Vase with Fifteen Sunflowers ).
