Reflux (phlegm, reflux, return, leachate) - part of the steam leaving the rectification column, liquefied in the deflater and returned to the top of the column ; the remainder of the steam, after passing through the condenser, is received as a distillate (rectification).

Reflux, flowing downwards in countercurrent to the steam, enriches it with a more volatile component. In some rectification processes, so-called raw liquid is added to the reflux liquid.
