Coniferous forests can be divided due to the dominant tree species on:

pine forest - where the dominant species is Scots pine ;

Spruce forest - the most common species is Norway spruce, and in some regions also limba (in Poland these forests grow in the mountains );

fir forest - the main component of the stand is fir (this type of forest is located in the Świętokrzyskie Mountains ). There are also other divisions of coniferous forests and so in Poland they grow:

dry pine forests - characterized by growing on dry sandy soils; the main components of the flora are Scots pine, and mosses, lichens and flowering plants dominate in the forest run;

fresh pine forests - grow on fairly moist soils; in the undergrowth there are heathers, blueberries and blackberries ; there are also deciduous trees such as birch ;

swampy pine forests - we find them on peat soils, wetlands - trees are smaller here (not necessarily), and the main plants found in the forest run are mosses. In phytosociology, Central European coniferous forests mostly belong to the Vaccinio-Piceetea class, the class includes also non- forest communities, ie shrubs and similar leafy deciduous forests ( like birch bog ).
