Battle of Martynów, Battle of Koniecpolski with Tatars near Martynów) - an oil painting painted by the Polish painter Józef Brandt in 1878, located in the collection of the National Museum in Warsaw. == Description == June 5, 1624 Crimean Tatars under the leadership of Kantymir Murzy invaded the lands of the Commonwealth from Wallachia on the Pokta side in order to obtain the spoils and take the people into yazir. The Tatars came to central Lesser Poland, after seeing the growing resistance of the Polish population decided to turn back. Stanisław Koniecpolski, commander of the Polish Crown Army hetman, decided to gather more strength and prepare an ambush for returning Tatars on the beard near the village of Martynów in western Ukraine. The painting by Józef Brandt shows the scene of the reflection of Polish prisoners of war from the Tartar camp called the basket, during the Battle of Martynov on June 20, 1624. The camp is panned with a mass of people, a group of liberated women and men is visible in the middle, who reveal their feelings with violent gestures: joy of freedom mixes with shock and rage at the Tartars. The main battle scene takes place in the background in the middle, marked by smoke rising over the fighters. Around are visible figures of the wounded and killed, abandoned spoils, tents, cattle and camels. On the left are the Tatar riders wading in the water running away.
