Gentlemen professors is a documentary film produced and directed by Maura Delpero between 2007 and 2008. It is distributed on DVD in a limited way and from January 13th 2010 you can see on tv channel CurrentChi still call teachers professors professors? Evidently the title ironically indicates the social loss of prestige, as well as the economic disadvantage, of workers, who count among them many precarious, especially young people, but not only, who are dedicated to a profession that oscillates between enthusiasm and depression.
Plot
The film follows the story of young teachers, at different levels of their careers, in three different representative regions of today's Italy.
The school is narrated on the side of the chair using the direct experiences of three true teachers who represent themselves and whose stories are not intersected except in the different way of relating with their students.
Lisa Bentini who plays herself is a young graduate who gets her first supply in the secondary school of Bentivoglio near Bologna. Of course he has no teaching experience and moreover has to do with a difficult and poorly amalgamated class. An experience, this of Lisa, painful that also reverberates in his private life where he brings his discontent and his dissatisfaction.
The second story is that of Dario Tulipano, a precarious teacher who lives in Palermo and who finally gets a one-year substitution but who will have to move to the other side of Italy : in Bolzano where he will naturally find himself living in a different world from that to which he was accustomed and where he must bravely fight his lonely battle with boys so different from him.
Finally, an almost positive story: that of Silvana de Fazio, a teacher now close to retirement who teaches in the last class of a Neapolitan high school.
