common zinnia - online puzzles

The Ziniars is a group of artists, mainly painters, who exhibited in Lyon from 1920 to 1924. He then represented the modern trend of painting Lyon.

History

Origin

The group that forms Ziniars are mainly from the School of Fine Arts in Lyon and are in continuity with the currents selected for the Universal Exhibition of 1914. Within this exhibition, part of the group exposes already: Adrien Bas, Louis Bouquet, Pierre Combet-Descombes, Paul Leriche and Etienne Morillon. This movement is carried by Henri Béraud and Richard Cantinelli and even if the first settles in Paris after the war, the second, vigorously supported by the art enthusiast Marius Mermillon continues his work of development of the new artistic in Lyon.

The main founding members are: Adrien Bas, Louis Bouquet, Pierre Combet-Descombes, Etienne Morillon, Claude Dalbanne, Emile Didier, Jacques Laplace, Marcel Gimond, Antonin Ponchon and Georges-Albert Tresch.

Origin of the name

According to Denise Festaud-Mermillon, the name of the group comes from a pun around the flower zinnia. One can also think, like Laurence Berthon, that these artists claimed to be "z'ignares" by derision to mark their difference with the proponents of academicism.

Exhibitions

In November 1920, the first exhibition of Ziniars is held at the Saint -Pierre Gallery, at No. 10 rue de l' Hotel -de-ville. This gallery is directed by Alfred Poyet.
