== History == The public library in Międzyrzecz was established as the Poviat Public Library on September 28, 1946 at the request of a school inspector. The teacher Halina Gielo became the organizer and the first manager. The facility was located in the building of the then Community House at ul. Kościelna 9 (currently ul. Świerczewskiego). Library furniture, such as shelves and tables, was transported from the palace in Bobowicko. Initially, the collection contained only 44 volumes from donations. There was Library Point 1 at the library that served the residents. At the end of January 1948, 310 readers were registered, in September the figure was 10% of the city's inhabitants.
