Domestic dog [3] (Canis familiaris [1]) - a domesticated species of predatory mammal from the Canidae family, treated by some systematic approaches as a subspecies of wolves [4] [5], and by others as a separate species [1], described under the synonymous names Canis lupus familiaris or Canis familiaris. Since its domestication, many breeds have arisen, significantly different in morphology and functional characteristics. Primitive breeds arose mainly as a result of environmental pressure. Modern breeds were obtained by artificial selection.
