Jean Ranc - a French baroque painter working at the French court of Louis XV and as a court painter for the Spanish king Philip V [1]. He was a student and follower of Hyacinthe Rigaud, he competed with Michel-Ang Houass for a position at the court. A fire in 1734 that completely destroyed the seat of the monarchs - the Royal Alcazar in Madrid was probably sparked in the chamber of the visually impaired Ranco. The Royal Palace was built on the site of the burnt Alcazar. Depressed Ranc died 6 months after the fire [1].
