Son of former volleyball player Adam Kurek. He was born in Wałbrzych, but grew up in Nysa, where his father in the mid-90s was successful in local Stalowa. His first contact with volleyball was at the age of 8, but in addition to his youth in volleyball, he also practiced basketball. In the third grade of primary school, he moved to the volleyball class. He has a younger brother - Jakub. His partner is the Polish national team Anna Grejman.
