Saint Anthony of Padua entrusts the monk to NM online puzzle
Saint Anthony of Padua entrusts the monk to the protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary - a painting painted by the Italian Renaissance artist Filippin Lippi. The painting was probably commissioned by a kneeling monk. Next to him stands St. Antoni Padewski. They are both filled with faith in the revealed Mother of God. The Virgin holds baby Jesus in her arms and looks down at the monks. Her face is calm, even melancholy, and her figure is disproportionately larger than St. Antoni and his protégé as if they were little children. This approach to the subject was in contrast to the style of Florentine masters represented by Verrocchio or Ghirland. The Madonna, although her robes are resting on the flowery lawn, is actually sitting on a throne made of small clouds. A calm, lyrical landscape stretches around the characters, emphasizing the mood of the scene [1]. The painting was purchased by Karol Pulszky for the Budapest Museum in 1894 from a Venetian art dealer.
