Equestrian Monument - a kind of monument developed in the Greco-Roman antiquity, reborn in the Italian Renaissance, continued in the Baroque and modern times. One of the first horse statues is the late-archaic sculpture of the Acropolis horseman in Athens from the end of the 6th century B.C. In the following centuries, the Romans continued the memorative Greek patterns, through numerous horse statues of chiefs and Augustus placed in the cities of the Roman Empire. The monument of Marcus Aurelius from the Capitoline Hill in Rome has happily survived to our times, and during the Middle Ages it was recognized as the image of Constantine the Great (at present there is only a copy on the square, the original statue is in the Museum of the Palace of Conservators).
