Neptune's Fountain (German: Neptunbrunnen) - was designed on the model of the Roman building Fontana del Nettuno to commemorate the Nuremberg Conference of 1649 organized after the Thirty Years' War. The fountain was designed in 1656 and was to be placed on the main square. Instead, it was erected in 1702 on Peunthof Square. 1797 the fountain was bought by Tsar Paul I and placed in the gardens of Peterhof Castle in Saint Petersburg. In 1902, a copy of it was placed on the main square, where it stood until 1934, when it was removed at Hitler's personal request. After the war, the fountain was erected in the city park in 1962. The discussion about the return of the fountain to the market is ongoing.
