The 7.5-meter-high monument is located at John Paul II Square. It consists of a pedestal made of stone blocks, on which rises a bronze arch topped with a cross. In the clearance of the arch there is a bronze statue of a praying pope. On the pedestal there is an inscription (a quote from the papal summons): N'ayez pas peur (Do not be afraid). The monument is the work of the Georgian sculptor Zurab Cereteli, who donated it to his friend Paul Anselin, the then mayor of Ploërmel. Anselin donated the monument to the city. The monument was officially unveiled on December 10, 2006. [1].
