Shetland Pony - a breed of ponies that come from the Shetland Islands. It is one of the smallest pony breeds present today - their short stature is the result of a natural process of stunting. In 1890, the first stud book was established. As a result of human activity, Shetland ponies, initially found only in the Shetland Islands, have spread throughout the world [1]. The only Polish Shetland pony stud is located in Imno near Golczew [2]. This breed probably derives from the prehistoric forms of the pony, which became stunted in extremely harsh climatic conditions [1]. Characteristic of Shetland ponies is their endurance, longevity, stubbornness and gentleness.
