Gjirokastr, Gjirokastra (Greek: Αργυρόκαστρο, Arjirókastro, Polish rarely: Dżirokastra [1]) - a town in southern Albania in the Gjirokastr district. The city is one of two Albanian (apart from Berat) museum cities. It owes this, among other things, to the stone houses of the old town, which are covered with gray slate. The numerous streets are very steep, which is why Gjirokastёr is called the "City of a Thousand Stairs". In 2005, the city was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. In 2008, the entry was extended to the city of Berat.
