The Baltic Sea, the Baltic Sea, is an inland sea on the continental shelf in northern Europe. Connected to the North Sea by the Danish Straits. Behind the western boundary of the Baltic Proper is the Øresund Strait and an underwater threshold extending to a depth of 18-20 m from Cape Gedser (Falster Island) to Cape Darßer Ort (Darß).
