Amsterdam is the capital city and the constitutional capital of the Netherlands. Most government institutions and representatives of foreign countries are in The Hague. Located on the Amstel river and numerous canals. The three largest in the shape of crescents are almost parallel to each other - Herengracht, Keizersgracht and Prinsengracht. With them, smaller channels connect radially forming a water network dividing the city into numerous islands, which is why Amsterdam is often called the Venice of the North. Amsterdam is partly below sea level, it is the largest city in the Netherlands, a large industrial center, second only to Rotterdam - the commercial port of the Netherlands, connected by sewers to the North Sea and the Rhine.
