Beynac-et-Cazenac is a small town in central France, situated on the river Dordogne. One of its most interesting monuments is the medieval castle (Château de Beynac) situated on the top of a high limestone hill. Its origins date back to the 12th century, when the first stronghold was erected here at the request of members of the powerful Beynac family. During the Hundred Years' War (the period of armed conflicts between England and France in 1337-1453), the castle played the role of an important French border strategic point. In the nineties of the twentieth century, the castle was used many times as a photo flan for many French films. Scenes for such films as, among others, Guests (Les Visiteurs) with Jan Reno in the lead role or Joan of Arc by Luc Besson.
