Plitvice Lakes National Park, a national park in Croatia, located in the central part of the country, approximately 140 kilometers from Zagreb, near the eastern border with Bosnia and Herzegovina; founded in 1949. Its biggest attraction is 16 karst lakes connected with each other by numerous waterfalls. The lakes lie in the southern part of the Mała Kapela mountains, which are part of the Dinaric Mountains. The Plitvice Lakes complex consists of two groups of lakes connected in cascade. The national park around Plitvice Lakes is a popular tourist attraction.
