Potala Palace is the winter residence of the rulers of Tibet and dominates Lhasa. A powerful, fortified building, which consists of, among others The White and Red Palace is a symbol of Tibetan Buddhism and a traditional center of its administration (the Dalai Lama left the palace in 1959). The modern building was built in the 17th century, but the Red Mountain was the seat of the rulers ten centuries earlier. Today it serves as a museum with a very rich collection of documents, valuables and wonderful decorations. The property is included in the UNESCO list.
