Maned arui [3], formerly: maned sheep, goat-headed sheep [4] (Ammotragus lervia) - a mammal from the beef family, the only representative of the genus Arui (Ammotragus) Blyth, 1840. It has features that show close kinship with goat and sheep. It occurs in hard-to-reach, rocky areas in North Africa (Atlas, Sahara Mountains). It used to be widely distributed in semi-arid and desert areas, from the Western Sahara and Morocco to Sudan and Egypt. It was introduced as a game in the 19th century in Europe, and in the 1950s in Texas, California and New Mexico [5]. In Poland maned sheep are kept, among others in the Silesian Zoological Garden in Chorzów [6], in the Zoobotanical Garden in Toruń [7], and in the Zoological Garden in Krakow [8].
