Hydrangea L. is a genus of plants in the Hydrangeaceae family, commonly known as hydrangeas. The vulgar name was given to the plant by the naturalist Philibert Commerson who introduced it from the shady forests of China to Europe, having made between 1766 and 1769 one of the first trips around the earth to the discovery of new plants, together with the navigator Louis Antoine de Bougainville.
