Berlin Cathedral - Germany online puzzle
The building was erected between 1895 and 1905. The place where this building stands was previously occupied by a baroque cathedral built by Johann Boumann, completed in 1747 and later remodeled in 1822 by the Berlin architect Karl Friedrich Schinkel in neoclassical style. This cathedral was demolished in 1894 by order of Emperor Wilhelm II and replaced by the current one, designed by Julius Raschdorff in the neo-baroque style of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The statues have a nice story. The bronze sculptures of four teenagers recall the young men who used to swim naked in the Spree River at night and who died saving one of the girls who got trapped in the river brush. The friends were found holding hands.
