This municipality has had many names before the current one. Initially it was called Casale San Giorgio (in honor of the patron saint), then Rotondo Casale, subsequently publicotondo and only in 1834 was called Locorotondo. The toponym recalls the characteristic form of the historic center, a set of small white houses arranged on concentric rings.
