The origin of this tradition dates back to the Middle Ages. May crosses are a popular tradition in the autonomous community of Andalusia, in southern Spain. During the month of May, wooden crosses are built and decorated in the squares and streets of towns and cities, and festivals are celebrated with music, dancing and food.
