In 1844, the Brazilian Senate commissioned a work on the Proclamation of Independence from the French painter François-René Moreaux (1807-1860). The result of the work was the canvas “Proclamation of Independence”, placed in the Senate room. It represents a situation that never occurred, with Dom Pedro on horseback accompanied by a crowd of people in São Paulo. It is currently at the Imperial Museum, in the city of Petrópolis, in Rio de Janeiro.
