Ángel María Cortellini - Spanish painter from the province of Cadiz. He started drawing early, he was a student of the painter Joaquin Domínguez Bécquer. At the age of 17, he left for Italy (his father was from Piedmont), visited cities such as Turin, Milan and Genoa. After two years he returned to Spain to study painting in Seville. In 1847 he moved to Madrid, where he set up his own studio and earned his living by selling paintings [1]. He was appointed court painter and made portraits of Queen Isabella II and her husband Frances de Asís Bourbon [2]. He was awarded the 1st medal twice at the National Exhibition of Fine Arts in Madrid: in 1866 for the painting Portrait of a Lady and in 1871 for the Battle of Wad-Ras.
