The Scream is one of the most famous paintings in the world and is considered the most important work of the symbolist Edvard Munch. Munch's interest in the expressive representation of emotions through art and the way in which he knew how to capture them through his painting, makes him considered one of the most influential precursors of Expressionism. He originally called this painting The Scream of Nature (Der Chrei der Natur) and it was created as part of the Frieze of Life series about modern life, love, anguish and death.
