The Osiris Trial. In the Duat, the spirit of the deceased was guided by the god Anubis before the court of Osiris. Anubis magically extracted the Ib (the heart, which represents conscience and morality) and deposited it on one of the two saucers on a scale. The Ib was counterbalanced with the Maat pen (symbol of Truth and Universal Justice), located on the other plate. Meanwhile, a jury made up of 42 gods asked him questions about his past behavior, and depending on his answers the heart decreased or gained weight. Tot, acting as a scribe, wrote down the results and delivered them to Osiris.
