In the years 1951–1956 he studied at the State College of Fine Arts in Łódź, he obtained his diploma in 1959. In the years 1974–1980 he was the commissioner of the Łódź Sculpture Gallery. In the years 1962–1968 he lectured at the PWSSP in Łódź. From 1987 he was the head of the Sculpture Studio of the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź. He created small, monumental and architectural sculptures, worked in wood, stone, concrete, ceramics and metal. He was the laureate of many awards and distinctions at exhibitions and national competitions [3]. Michał Gałkiewicz's works can be found in national and foreign museums. He was repeatedly awarded for artistic, pedagogical and social activities, incl. in 2014 with the bronze medal for Merit to Culture - Gloria Artis [4].
