Hippopotamus [3] (Hippopotamus amphibius), from the Greek 'ιπποπόταμος (hippopotamos, hippos means "horse", potamos means "river") - a species of large, mostly herbivorous mammal, belonging to the hippopotamus family (Hippopotamidae), within which it is distinguished two modern species (the other being the much smaller pygmy hippo). The Nile hippopotamus is the only living representative of the genus Hippopotamus.
