Sumatran tiger (Panthera tigris sumatrae) - a subspecies of the Asian tiger, a predatory mammal from the felidae family, the smallest of today's tigers and the only surviving tiger of the Sunda Archipelago [3]. Traditionally, it is classified as a subspecies Panthera tigris sumatrae [1] [4], described by Pocock (1929), which is confirmed by genetic studies [5]. However, the morphological differences are so clear that some researchers referring to the phylogenetic concept of the PSC species (Cracraft et al., 1998 and Mazák and Groves, 2006) suggest that the Sumatran tiger is considered a separate species of Panthera sumatrae [3] [6].
