Nubian cat [2], African wildcat (Felis silvestris lybica) - a subspecies of the European wildcat, a mammal from the felidae family. It lives in almost all of Africa (except for waterless deserts and tropical rainforests) and the Arabian Peninsula. As you can see, there is some confusion over the naming of this species. This is due to the fact that the latest genetic research proves an extremely close relationship between the wildcat and the Nubian cat and suggests that they should be classified as one species, possibly separating only a separate group of wildcats living in the Middle East and Africa. The Nubian cat is considered to be the ancestor of the domestic cat.
