The spotted nicobar [3] (Caloenas maculata) - probably an extinct bird of the columbidae family, subfamily of threrons, described on the basis of a specimen of uncertain origin [4]. It is currently known from only one prepared specimen, which is kept at the World Museum of the National Museums Liverpool; it was probably caught in French Polynesia (possibly Tahiti), roughly between 1783 and 1823 [5].
