Rainbow bee-eater (Merops ornatus) - a species of bee-eater (Meropidae), found in Australia, on some surrounding islands and in eastern New Guinea (at least around Port Moresby and in the Ramu River Valley), possibly also in the eastern Lesser Sunda Islands [ 3]. In winter, southern populations move north to New Guinea and eastern Indonesia [3], and to the Bismarck Archipelago, rarely to the Solomon Islands [4]. It is the only bee-eater found in Australia [4]. This species is monotypic [3] [5].
