Scarlet ibis [4] (Eudocimus ruber) - a species of large bird of the ibis family (Threskiornithidae). Occurs in the lowlands from Colombia through Venezuela and Trinidad, further east through the coast of Guyana to the coast of northern Brazil; also on the southeast coast of Brazil [2]. It flies to Central America and the Caribbean. It lives in wetlands, rice fields and mangrove thickets. Closely related to the white ibis (Eudocimus albus) [2]. There are no subspecies [2] [5].
